Students at a Tulsa elementary now have much safer classrooms and more of them, too. McClure Elementary built 13 new classrooms which will also function as safe rooms.
The school's enrollment had grown to the point several classes had to be held in trailers.
"If we have such high expectations for students - in terms of their growth, not only academically but as human beings, they need to have access to a space that promotes that," said Katy Jimenez, McClure principal.
The project was part of a $415 million bond approved by voters in 2015.
