Sewage Leak At Tulsa Hospice Facility Causes Patients To Vacate

Clarehouse, a Tulsa Hospice, evacuated its guests and employees after raw sewage ran through part of the facility Thursday afternoon.

The City of Tulsa told News On 6 rags caused a blockage in a sewer line. That blockage was eventually removed. Clarehouse is located near 76th and Mingo.

Thursday afternoon there was a line of ambulances evacuating the 8 people that were being cared for at the hospice.

Executive Director Kelley Scott said at about 4 p.m. toilets started getting sluggish and within about 30 minutes all the drains started backing up with raw sewage that overflowed onto the floors and into the bedrooms.

The nonprofit hospice provides free 24-hour care for people during their final days or weeks before passing away. Now it’s forced to deal with this unpleasant emergency.

"These are people who are really sick and struggling, and families are hurting so this is heartbreaking for us that they are going through this," said Executive Director Kelley Scott. 

The guests have been moved to area hospitals or another hospice.

Clarehouse said it will need help from the community, but right now they are still evaluating the damage.
