Yukon Metro Bars, Restaurants Outlier Amid Coronavirus (COVID-19) Restrictions

Yukon bars and restaurants owners said they have received threats for remaining open to the public.

That comes as Oklahoma City, Edmond, Moore and Norman establishments sit empty following emergency orders by their mayors.

Yukon’s COVID-19 response has allowed bars and restaurants to operate while leaving every other seat or table open.

“They looked at some other cities and, while some cities our size did decide to close the restaurants, there are some that they found that decided to have restrictions close to ours,” Jena Roberson with the City of Yukon said.

Those establishments will however, be forced to close Tuesday at midnight following Governor Kevin Stitt’s order to effected counties.

The city had already moved to shut down gyms, spas, and entertainment venues.

At least four Canadian County residents have tested positive for the virus, according to the state health department.

 “One thing that was discussed quite a bit in the meeting yesterday was their concern for business owners here in town and how they are going to be able to provide,” Roberson said.

Yukon City leaders are meeting Tuesday night to decide punishments for businesses and patrons who do not comply with the emergency order.
