Oklahoma Major Disaster Declaration In Response To Coronavirus Approved

Oklahoma has qualified for funding through FEMA's public assistance program.

Now all state and local governments in Oklahoma will be able to receive emergency protective measures and direct federal assistance in response to COVID-19.

FEMA along with the Oklahoma Department of Emergency Management, and local emergency management directors will be working hand in hand to document different local jurisdictions eligible for reimbursement.

The State is also working to see what additional disaster aid is needed to cover costs related to coronavirus response and recovery.

Because the COVID-19 pandemic has become so wide spread, Congress is approving different forms of aid that FEMA would typically approve on the local and state level. They've also been approving aid beyond what FEMA can typically provide.

The governors request for more additional aid is still under review from the White House. This includes crisis counseling, disaster unemployment assistance and disaster legal services.
