A semi-spray painted pickup truck now back with its owner after a high-speed chase ended at a Tulsa apartment complex Monday afternoon.
Police say the man who stole it, 25-year-old Thomas Hill, is familiar with police. Investigators say an officer spotted the truck near 91st and Mingo and it checked back stolen.
Instead of stopping, police say Hill sped off and led officers to the Prescott Woods Apartments near 61st and Peoria.
"He went right to go around to like lose the cops but they were like already on track," said Kyle Stube, a resident at that complex.
Stube and his mom happened to be walking across the parking lot when Hill drove in and say they were just a few inches away from being hit.
"She grabbed onto me so she could get out of the way,” said Stube.
Stube says police blocked off all of the exits and Hill finally surrendered.
Police soon learned Hill was wanted for a robbery back in August and has had previous run-ins with the law - including carrying a gun after a felony conviction. Stube says he's just thankful his mom wasn't hurt.
"She was panicking,” said Stube. “I was just trying to stay calm and collect myself."
Police also tracked down the owner of the truck who says it was stolen about three months ago. The owner says he will now need a new paint job because all of the spray paint, wasn't there before.
