The Pittsburg County Sheriff's Office and OSBI are investigating a deputy-involved shooting.
Investigators say one suspect is dead after they were shot by a deputy near Pittsburg Road and Staples Road near the town of Pittsburg. According to PCSO deputies were on patrol after residents complained about someone riding an ATV erratically and potential burglary using an ATV.
Around 7 p.m. Oct. 11, deputies say they spotted an ATV and attempted to make a traffic stop. The suspect, 19-year-old Sayven Lane Rowland, refused to stop and tried to evade police, a news release states.
At some point, PCSO said Rowland crashed the ATV and refused to obey deputy commands. Deputies say they attempted to used less-lethal methods to subdue Rowland, but he pulled out a firearm and brandished at the deputies.
Pittsburg County Sheriff's Office say the deputies were forced to use deadly force. No deputies were hurt and those involved are on paid administrative leave. OSBI is investigating the shooting.
