Saturday was a special day for people in Washington County. Thousands of volunteers showed up to give back at Johnstone Park to take care of their neighbors free of charge.
"Give, give, give, and when we all come together as one in one accord, we are all in the giving spirit," said volunteer Sharon Reese.
It's all thanks to Convoy of Hope, a Missouri-based organization that gives out free items from shoes and groceries to haircuts and family portraits. Darryl Wootton said he spent nine months helping bring the event to Bartlesville. He said the town qualified to host the event because of the thousands of volunteers and donations.
"We are just so thankful for so many people from Bartlesville, and different people from other communities just showing the love of Jesus," said Wootton.
Hundreds of people waited in like for hours waiting for a helping hand. Volunteers provided free health screenings, veteran services and career services. Bartlesville is the third Oklahoma city to host this event.
Event attendee, Sierra Spears, waited in line for hours with her week old baby, hoping to pick up extra groceries.
"Because some families struggle, granted we work, but there are some times that we need a little extra help and there is nothing wrong with that extra help and that's what we need," said Spears.
