Tulsa firefighters say copper thieves were the likely cause of a transformer fire in West Tulsa Tuesday morning.
It happened around 9:30 a.m. at an old city facility near Charles Page Boulevard and 33rd West Avenue. TFD had to treat the situation as a hazmat scene, because the transformer involved was an old design that contained an explosive, toxic chemical.
No one was hurt. Firefighters say that type of transformer is very uncommon.
