Pregnant Woman Shot, Tulsa Police Investigating

Tulsa police are investigating after a shooting near 21st and Garnett.

Officers said they got a call about gunshots around 5:30 p.m. and discovered a pregnant woman had been shot during what police are calling a "rolling gunfight".

"A young lady was found to be shot in the back of the head, EMSA transported her," said TPD Cpl. Bruce Alexander.

Tulsa Police said the woman and a man were driving in a car when the shooting began. Shots blew out the back window of the car causing them to crash into a mailbox. The man was not hit.

"We got shell casings in there and at the moment we just found 11 but it could be possibly more. But at this moment we are still in the primary stages," said Cpl. Bruce Alexander with Tulsa Police.

For nearly two hours, some people who lived in the area were not allowed back in their homes as Police poured over the scene.

"All my field officers that are out here on the scene, they are about to go in each one of the houses and talk to them. We know for sure there was one house that was hit with a random bullet," said Cpl Alexander.

Police said are speaking with a few witnesses as detectives continue to canvas the neighborhood. According to police, the pregnant woman is awake and she and the unborn child are expected to be okay.
