A Catoosa man is in jail, accused of breaking into a home and holding three people hostage at knifepoint.

Police said he then kidnapped a woman and led multiple law enforcement agencies on a lengthy chase through Tulsa.

"It was just a random deal, and that's what's kind of scary," Catoosa Officer Brent Colbert said.

Colbert said Garrett Estes admitted he saw police at a QuikTrip and thought they were "after him," so he took off through a wooded area and broke into the first house he found. Officers responded to the first 911 call around 1 a.m., but the homeowner told them to get off her property.

"Which they thought was odd, but they complied with her request," Colbert said. "Unbeknownst to them, there was a gentleman inside holding her hostage with the knife."

Police said they were called to the house again about two hours later.

"Once they arrived, they observed the victim being put into her own car," Colbert continued.

Officers said when they approached the car, Estes took off with his hostage inside.

"They literally chased him over East Tulsa, North Tulsa, back across to South Tulsa," Colbert said. "They chased him all over Tulsa."

Tulsa police and OHP stepped in to help, and eventually, OHP performed a maneuver to bring the car to a stop. Officers were able to get the victim out with minor injuries but said Estes put up a fight.

"They had to use bean bag shotguns, pepper balls, and then they eventually had to tase him to get him out of the vehicle," Colbert said.

Records show Estes has several convictions including kidnapping in Mayes County in 2013, and domestic abuse and threatening a violent threat in Craig County. Now, he faces a long list of new crimes.
