Former Deputy Gets 20 Years For Wagoner County Child Sexual Assault

A former Tulsa County deputy and jailer was sentenced Wednesday on a child sexual abuse charge in Wagoner County. Josh Wood was arrested in July 2016 and charged with sexually assaulting an 11-year-old girl.

Court records show Wood waived his right to a jury trial in October, pleading no contest to the charge. On December 19, he received a total of 25 years with 20 years in the Department of Corrections and five years on probation.

Wagoner County Sheriff Chris Elliott said the case against Wood was one of the first he took over in his tenure as sheriff, and he expressed disgust that a former law enforcement officer was involved.

He also praised the young victim for her participation in the prosecution's case.

“I am so proud of the young victim in this crime. The road was not easy, and the scars will last forever, but she was brave. She stood tall, so this predator could not hurt another child.

“I'm proud of my investigators and staff who put in some good work on this case," he said. "My staff has a heart for protecting our children from the Josh Woods of this world.”

Wood also faced child sexual assault charges in Tulsa County where he was arrested in March 2017. Wood will serve a total of 20 years in prison and five on probation for both sexual assault cases.

The sentence came as a result of a plea agreement between the parties.
