State And Local Reactions To Kavanaugh Supreme Court Confirmation

Local and State politicians are responding to Judge Brett Kavanaugh’s narrow confirmation to the Supreme Court.

In the end, the Senate voted to approve Kavanaugh's Supreme Court Nomination with a near party-line vote of 50-48. The confirmation came after a divisive struggle which heated up over claims that Kavanaugh sexually assaulted women in the 1980s.

The divide was evident between local Democrats and Republicans on Saturday.

"There was at least a dozen possible alternative candidates they could have posed. They could have put anybody in there really, but they hunkered down for political reasons," said Don Bowen a member of Tulsa County Democratic Party.

"We have in him a constitutionalist who believes in the rule of law and I'm delighted that he's on the bench," said David Arnett of the Tulsa County Republican Part.

Both parties say that they believe this nomination will have a significant impact on the midterm elections.

Oklahoma Senators Jim Inhofe and James Lankford both voted to confirm Kavanaugh. Senator released a statement of support after the vote saying in part:

"The Judiciary Committee conducted a diligent investigation in light of several additional allegations against Judge Kavanaugh and neither they or the F-B-I was able to find evidence to support the multiple accusations against him."

On Twitter, Senator Inhofe issued the tweet below saying "Brett Kavanaugh will be committed to upholding the Constitution and respecting judicial restraint. That's exactly the kind of well-qualified, balanced justice we need."
