With temperatures across Green Country reaching possibly the lowest we’ve seen since April, some people may be turning on their furnaces or space heaters for the first time in months.

The Tulsa Fire Department wants to remind everyone to check, and double check, your heating source.

“In this situation, it just kind of sneaks up on you sometimes,” said Andy Little from TFD.  “Just make sure you’re prepared.  If you’re going to use a space heater, inspect it thoroughly, make sure that the kids aren’t getting in contact with it or that it’s not in a position where your dog or cat could knock it over.”

Little says if you’re not using your heat Wednesday night, it’s best to have it checked out by a professional, which can bring peace of mind and to help keep your family warm and safe.
