Gathering Place leaders are trying to break a world record that involves a classic dance and they'll need your help to do it.
They're hoping for the great lawn to be filled with thousands of people doing the Electric Slide. And they're gonna keep count of how many people are out there because they're hoping to break the record for the most people dancing to the Electric Slide.
"Take a look at this beautiful green grass behind us because there will be over 5,000 folks doing the Electric Slide in unity," said Executive Director Tony Moore.
The current record is 5,000 people even. Guinness Book of World Records will have a representative present on Friday to verify the record. Reggae singers Marcia Griffiths and Tony Rebel will perform Friday evening as the park tries to set a new record. Griffiths sang the "Electric Boogie" song that made the dance popular.
Executive director Tony Moore said they want to encourage all tastes in music and this is a fun way to do that.
"We knew we were gonna have changes with our beautiful grass with the Electric Slide being done and said, 'if we're gonna have that kind of impact on the grass, why not let's go for some type of record’," said Moore. "Bring your dancing shoes, practice because we're gonna film this and we really want this to look pretty cool on video, right?"
Park leaders say the concert starts at 6 p.m but you'll probably want to be here by 5 because with so many people doing the "Electric Slide" it's gonna get crowded.
