A Tulsa non-profit is donating thousands of comic books to school programs across the state.
Tulsa Pop Kids collected more than 4,000 comic books through a county-wide comic book drive. Organizers hope the donated comics will encourage children to read.
"Because comic books capture the imagination of an individual, they capture the mind of a child - it’s something they want to read about. They’re not going to read Moby Dick, they are going to read about Spider-Man, or Superman, or whatever their favorite Marvel or DC character is,” said Daniel Blankenship with Tulsa Pop Kids.
The comic books will be distributed to the Reading Partners of Tulsa, The Children's Hospital and other programs.
