Locust Grove Police Chief Bryan Jason Hurry was arrested on a domestic abuse complaint Tuesday, September 4, 2018. Hurry is accused of punching his wife in the face while they were at a Mexican restaurant earlier this month.

Court records show Mayes County Sheriff's Office was called to do a welfare check on Hurry's wife September 1. She told the deputy she and her husband had had a few drinks while at a Mexican restaurant, and she asked her husband to stop on the way home to get a six pack of beer, according to an affidavit of probable cause.

The couple got into an argument, and Hurry hit his wife in the face, records state. Investigators say they spoke to the manager of the restaurant who said Hurry did punch his wife in the face. The affidavit says the manager was afraid to intervene because he knew Hurry was armed.

The police chief, 40, reportedly drove recklessly on the way home and slammed on the brakes at one point, causing his wife to hit the dash, records show.

Captain Rod Howell of the Mayes County Sheriff's Office said Hurry denies the allegations. Hurry was not on duty nor in his patrol car when the alleged incident took place, he said.

Howell also said Hurry was in the process of posting $2,000 bond Wednesday afternoon.
