The State Medical Examiner’s Office has identified a body found in woods in Nowata County in 2017.

In August of 2017, hunters discovered a male body approximately two miles east of Highway 169 in the Oologah Wetland hunting area.

According to the Nowata County Sheriff’s Office, Gering had last been seen leaving his Nowata residence on August 4, 2017.  They say his vehicle was located later that day.

Later that month, the Sheriff’s Office requested that the Oklahoma State Bureau of Investigation assist with the investigation.

The OSBI says its agents have conducted several interviews and followed the leads they had in this case, but they are still investigating.

Anyone with information is asked to call the OSBI at 918-582-9075 or 800-522-8017.
