A Few Saturday Showers But Lots of Summer Heat For Green Country

A few lucky areas have kicked off Saturday with some pleasant rains, but don’t be fooled:  The heat is still rollin’ our way for our weekend!

Scattered showers and a few storms will remain possible through lunchtime or early afternoon across far northeast Oklahoma, primarily areas just north of Tulsa.  No severe weather is expected, but be aware of the lightning threat!

Outside of those showers and storms, the summer heat will continue to build on our Saturday.  Sunshine will break through more easily as the day progresses, and we’ll see highs climb into the mid-90s from Tulsa to the south with highs closer to 90 north of Tulsa where clouds linger.  Tack on that humidity, however, and we’ll see heat index values near or even above 105 from Tulsa to the south today with a heat advisory in effect.  Stay hydrated and stay cool if you have outdoor plans!

With regards to the heat, it’s “rinse and repeat” on Sunday.  A steady south breeze will keep us in the mid-70s to start the day, and with sunnier skies Sunday we’ll see highs back in the mid-90s with heat index values again near or perhaps above 105.  Area lakes and pools should be getting a good workout this weekend!

Don’t expect the heat to break significantly anytime soon.  The beginning of the upcoming work week looks very similar with lows in the upper 70s, highs in the mid-90s, and heat index values well over 100 for both Monday and Tuesday.

Our one hope to break up the heat wave would be rain chances, and we do see a chance for some scattered storms by late Tuesday night and into Wednesday along a weak boundary.  This won’t provide us with a huge cool-down, but we could have enough storms around on Wednesday to keep temperatures in the upper 80s as opposed to the mid to upper 90s.  That relief will be short-lived though, as the heat cranks right back up late next week and looks to linger into Labor Day weekend as well.
