Severe Storms Cause Damage, Power Outages In NE Oklahoma

<p>Severe thunderstorms are sweeping across northeastern Oklahoma Thursday afternoon. Severe thunderstorm and flash flood warnings have been issued for some counties.</p>

Severe thunderstorm watches and warnings are in effect across much of northeastern Oklahoma until 11 p.m. Storms will continue to develop and move east with damaging winds possible, along with an increasing flash flooding potential, according to meteorologist Stacia Knight.

There is a flash flood warning for Creek, Okmulgee, Osage, Pawnee and Tulsa counties until 8:45 p.m.

Very heavy rain, heavy lightning and strong winds have been reported. Sand Springs Police confirm they have street and power lines down and flooding in several areas.

News On 6 Meteorologist Mike Grogan said radar estimates nearly five-inches of rain fell south of Sand Springs near Prattville.

Sand Springs also saw tree and building damage in the storm. Viewers report seeing small hail as a cell swept through the Sand Springs area.

A small plane, a Cessna 172, flipped over at the Jenks Airport as the damage extended further south.

As of 5:45 p.m., Public Service of Oklahoma reports more than 10,600 customers are without power system wide.

Tulsa is on Operation Slick Streets with poor visibility reported in several areas as storms sweep through. There are numerous wrecks reported in the metro area.

Flash flooding potential is high.
