Tulsa police have arrested a man for producing child pornography involving a 10-year-old Green Country girl.
According to police, the Cyber Crimes Unit received the phone in the mail from an unknown person on July 30, 2018. Investigators examined the phone and found a video of a child being sexually abused by an adult.
Police say when they saw the video of the little girl being abused, they knew they had to find her and save her.
“Just devastating to know nobody ever knew this kid was being victimized or wanted to admit it,” said Sergeant Jeremy Noland.
Detectives spent many hours figuring out who the little girl is, then they went after the suspect.
Police say the real hero of this story is whoever mailed in that cell phone with a note that said, “Child pornography. Please investigate.”
Cyber Crimes detectives followed the digital trail to a suspect, identified as 24-year-old Zachary Newberry.
They say they looked all over Green Country for him, even checking around Miami, Tahlequah, and then finally tracking him down at an RV park between Claremore and Pryor.
Detectives say when they first approached Newberry, he denied making the video of the girl, but they say there were enough identifying marks on the man in the video that they knew Newberry was their suspect.
They say Newberry eventually admitted to not only making the video, but watching it over and over.
“He decided that the weight needed to come off his shoulders and chest and he opened up and told us what we expected to hear from him,” said Noland.
Newberry had nothing to say to us and police booked into jail for child sex abuse and manufacturing child pornography.
Detectives say it’s possible the feds may pick up the case.
Police say if anyone finds what they think is child pornography, they would like to know about it.
