Couple Arrested, Found With Child, Drugs In Stolen Wagoner County Travel Trailer

Two people have been arrested after being discovered living in a stolen trailer.  Also in the trailer was their young child, methamphetamine, and needles and other drug paraphernalia.

The Wagoner County Sheriff’s Office says the travel trailer was reported stolen from a storage facility in June.

At that time, Tammie White asked the thieves to return her trailer.

“We cry a lot right now.  We want it back,” said White.  “If you’re seeing this and you want to bring it back, park it at a Walmart and call the police and say, ‘Hey, this is where the travel trailer is at.’”

The thieves never returned it, but a viewer who saw White’s story spotted the trailer and called police.

Deputies say the tip they received indicated that the trailer was in Tulsa.

“This case could have easily been, ‘it’s gone,’ with no leads, no information on who took it,” said Wagoner County Chief Deputy Les Young.

After conducting surveillance, Wagoner County deputies and Tulsa police executed a search warrant on August 7th for a property in the 2000 block of North 129th East Avenue, but they weren’t expecting what they found inside.

They say the trailer was hidden on the property behind a line of trees and people had been living inside it.

Investigators found 30-year-old Keathel Thomas, 24-year-old Kristan Smittle, and their 4-year-old child living in the trailer.

Deputies say the search also revealed a quantity of methamphetamine, needles, and other drug paraphernalia used in drug distribution.

“The little guy, I did not see him, but he slept through the entire process and was then released to his grandparents,” said Young.

Thomas and Smittle were arrested for drug possession and concealing stolen property.  They were transported to the Wagoner County Jail.

Young says “they were cooperative.  It was not a dynamic entry.”

For White, the memories she made with her family in that trailer, given to her by her husband, will not be gone forever.

For investigators, they say this investigation was a first of its kind that they can remember.

“In my memory, this is the first RV stolen in our county,” said Young.  “As far as stealing one to live in, it is a rarity.”

Investigators are still working to determine whether Thomas and Smittle actually stole the trailer or got it from someone who did.
