Repair crews are responding to a gas line rupture near the Mayo Hotel in downtown Tulsa, authorities said. Tulsa police and firefighters are on scene.

Construction workers operating a backhoe hit the line near the hotel located at 115 West 5th Street, according to Tulsa Fire Department.

Tulsa Police have closed down the intersection of 5th and Cheyenne and ask drivers to avoid the area.

Authorities tell News On 6 they evacuated one building as a precaution. It is normally vacant but was being used by construction workers involved in a project.

An Oklahoma Natural Gas spokesperson says repairs were made around 4:00 p.m. Monday.
