Tulsa Police Officers are trying to the find the man they say broke into an elderly woman's home this morning, stuck a gun in her face to wake her up, and then stole from her.

The woman actually woke up to the sound of glass shattering and then noticed a man with a mask over his face in her room. Officers say as terrifying as the situation was for her, she reacted the right way.

Police say the man told the victim he wanted her money, pointed a gun at her and forced her back into another room while he rummaged through her things. Once the elderly woman believed the man was gone, police say she went across the street and told a neighbor. Tulsa Police Sgt. Shane Tuell says there have been 3 burglaries in the area between Harvard and Lewis from 31st to 41st this month.

He says the numbers don't mean the area is dangerous he says crime fluctuates.

"Bad guys are not smart, they are opportunists and if you leave those opportunities there for them to prey upon you're risking on becoming a victim," said Sgt. Tuell.

Police say that regardless of how safe you feel your neighborhood might be a crime can happen anywhere. Sgt. Tuell says locking your front and back doors and windows, making sure your garage doors are closed during the day and even installing surveillance cameras can help deter criminals from your home.
