A college party in Stillwater ended in gunfire. It happened Saturday night at the White Barn Pavilion, an event center just three miles from the Oklahoma State University campus. Police say four people were shot when someone opened fire into the crowd.
“This entire parking lot was packed with cars,” said Lt. Jeff Watts with the Stillwater Police Department.
It was in the parking lot where police say a fight broke out, then turned violent.
“This group started shooting at this group,” Lt. Watts said.
Around 1:30 Sunday morning, security guards started pushing hundreds of party goers out of the building when the shots were fired.
“Most people had scattered as the officers were arriving on scene,” he said.
Lt. Watts says a fight over personal property escalated to the shooting. Four people were shot.
“I think there was some innocent bystanders who got caught in the crossfire,” he said.
Officers on scene located the first victim, a man, in the parking lot. He had gunshot wounds to his chest and hand. He was flown by helicopter to a hospital in Oklahoma City.
Two other victims arrived at the Stillwater Medical Center. One of those victims had a gunshot wound to the leg and the other had a gunshot wound to his arm. The fourth victim drove to Norman Regional Medical Hospital with a gunshot wound to the buttocks. All victims are recovering.
“We don’t know as far as the injuries, who shot who and we don’t have a suspect identified at this time,” Lt. Watts said.
The chaotic scene left behind blood and shell casings spread out across the parking lot. Evidence that leads investigators to believe there could be more than one shooter.
