Car Crashes Into Transformer, Taking Out Power To Tulsa Hills

Public Service of Oklahoma restored power to the Tulsa Hills area near 71st Street and Highway 75 Monday. Police say a driver crashed into a transformer box around 4 a.m., causing the outage.

Officers set up at several stores to "provide a law enforcement presence," a news bulletin states. They were assigned to QuikTrip, the Tulsa Hills Shopping Center and the Best Buy store.

Officer J. Graham found an unoccupied red 2000 Honda Civic with Kansas tags and front end damage parked near Ted's Mexican Restaurant in the shopping center. They believe it may be responsible for the power outage, but no arrests had been made.

Most of the PSO customers were restored to power by 9 a.m., but it took til 3 p.m. to get a few others back online, according to Ed Bettinger, company spokesperson.

Best Buy, Pet Smart, Famous Footwear and Sprint were out til 3 p.m.  

"Whoever did this smashed up a couple of PSO electrical cabinets on the north side of the Best Buy," he said. "They left us with quite a mess to clean up."
