Construction Update On Tulsa's 101st Street Project

A street project that has caused major slow downs for drivers around Jenks Middle School is nearing an end for now.

For the past several months, crews have worked to make 101st Street safer by adding turning lanes and sidewalks.

Right now, only westbound traffic is open along 101st, and drivers near Louisville haven't been able to drive east since last fall.  But that's about to change.

Tulsa City Councilor Phil Lakin says he has been told two-way traffic is expected to open back up by April 26th.  Drivers will still need to take it slow in that area because Lakin says crews will continue to work along both sides of the road to complete the sidewalks.

It will be a relief for drivers who have kids at the middle school, but short-lived for those who live in the area.

Lakin says more work will be done on 101st Street over the summer months.  He says crews will fix some sewer-related problems, reduce the hill height between Louisville and Jamestown and put in retaining walls along the north side of a creek in the area.

Lakin says the second round of construction should be complete by next school year.
