A Coweta teen was killed in a single-vehicle crash around 8:30 p.m. Monday, April 16. The Oklahoma Highway Patrol say Jarely Mendoza was pronounced dead at the scene.
Troopers say Mendoza was a passenger in a 2003 Honda Accord that that was southbound on 273rd Street when it crashed near 111th.
"They topped the hill at an unsafe speed, lost control on the on gravel roadway, ran off the left side of the roadway and struck an electric pole," said Lieutenant Chris Arnall, OHP. "It don't matter what kind of weather it is, gravel roadway is easy to lose control on, and when you're a 17-year-old, you barely even have a year's experience under your belt, let along being that fast on the gravel roadway."
The driver, a 17-year-old girl whose name was not released, was taken to the hospital with head injuries. She's said to be stable.
