Chilly Temps For First Week Of April Across Green Country

A winter weather advisory will remain for a few more hours early this morning due to the light drizzle or even some slight and freezing temps across part of northeast Oklahoma and southeast Kansas.  Please use caution on elevated surfaces such as bridges and overpasses and prepare for extra commuting time this morning in some locations.  Most locations will be in fine shape this morning but there may be a few slick spots.

Active weather will remain with a few additional shower chances both Today and early Tuesday.  Additional showers and storms will be likely again Friday into part of early Saturday with another storm system nearing the state.   While temps will remain rather chilly for the next few days, temps will gradually be warming into the 60s for the warmest portion of the week before possibly turning colder again Friday evening into Saturday morning.

The cold snap continues this morning with many locations in the lower 30s, slightly below freezing.  Some light drizzle has been occurring overnight and could create some slick spots on elevated surfaces through the next few hours.   I wouldn’t be shocked to see a few sleet pellets in a few spots that do end up with some light precip.  But the overall trend of precip will be dwindling over the next few hours or so near the metro.

Temps will be above freezing around the 10 am to 11 am period this morning with temps moving from near or below freezing this morning into the 40s this afternoon.  The actual high of the day will probably be reach later tonight.   Additional showers are possible in some locations later today, mainly across the far eastern sections of the state, but we’ll keep a low pop in the forecast for the metro.  Temps will move into the upper 50s or even the lower 60s quickly Tuesday morning before another strong cold front quickly moves through the area Tuesday midday to afternoon bringing north winds and colder weather back to the area Tuesday night into Wednesday morning.   A few showers or storms may develop early Tuesday as the front moves across the area but the higher probability will remain across far southeastern Oklahoma and southwest Arkansas where deeper moisture will reside.  Thankfully the front will cross the area early tomorrow morning and limit the severe weather threats to extreme southeastern Oklahoma. 

Temps by Tuesday afternoon will drop into the lower 50s with strong northwest winds by midday to afternoon that may reach advisory level criteria to the northwest of the metro.  A surface ridge of high pressure will quickly build directly over northeast Oklahoma Wednesday morning providing clear sky and light winds that will promote temps below freezing.   Another freeze warning will be issued for late Tuesday night into Wednesday morning for a large portion of northeast Oklahoma and southeast Kansas.  As the surface ridge slides southeast, south winds and warmer weather will commence Thursday into the end of the week before another strong front arrives either Friday or Saturday.   Current data support the next surface low diving well south of the area into Friday morning while the main upper level support will move across the central plains.  This would bring north winds Friday and overrunning precipitation chances back into state Friday into Saturday morning.  The data has trended much colder once again for the Friday afternoon and evening periods which would require warmer readings Friday morning and colder temps by the afternoon and evening.   I start trending the forecast in this direction for Friday into Saturday morning but will still offer a compromise on temps until the confidence grows.
