Tulsa Public Schools has ten new teachers after a hiring event Saturday.
More than 70 people visited with principals and interviewed to fill the empty positions.
Many of the applicants applied weeks ago.
A former Tulsa Police Officer who applied to be a teacher said the recent pay raise passed by the legislature had nothing to do with his decision to apply.
"I'm here to do a service for the community more than a service for myself," said Teacher Applicant Randall Drew.
There are nearly 100 job openings with TPS right now.
