Tulsa police say a suspect is in jail now, accused of beating a man to death with his own walking cane.

Mickey Drake is in the Tulsa County Jail on a complaint of first degree murder.

Police say Drake told officers he was drunk and got into a fight with Craig Henderson, but did not admit to killing him.

Now, detectives are trying to piece together exactly what happened.

Police say someone used Henderson’s walking cane to beat him to death near 14th and Lewis.

Sergeant Dave Walker says, “really, what we have got at that particular area is Craig’s little compound and Mickey are the only two there, and one is dead and one is the one that stayed alive.”

Police say Drake flagged down an officer on Saturday and that he led officers to Henderson’s body.

According to police, the investigation quickly focused on Drake because he was covered in blood.

Officers say Drake told them several stories, but eventually admitted he and Henderson had a fight earlier in the day.

Drake told detectives that he fell asleep and woke up to find Henderson dead.

“He said he was too drunk to understand what the altercation was about,” stated Walker.  “I bet you when it’s all said and done, the argument was over something very minor.”

Now, officers are trying to find surveillance video from stores Henderson or Drake might have gone to on Saturday to see when and how the fight started.

Court records show both Drake and Henderson have criminal histories.

John 3:16’s Reverend Steve Whitaker says the men have come to them several times over the past decade for a hot meal and a church service, but refused help each time.

Whitaker says “it is a difficult thing whenever we are offering help to people that can prosper, can make a change, and they don’t take us up on that offer.”

Anyone with information about the men or the murder investigation is asked to call Crimestoppers.
