Two different police departments are working together to investigate two attempted child abductions.

Police in Sand Springs and Depew say both cases are similar and happened one day apart.

The possible abduction attempt in Sand Springs happened Wednesday, March 21st. The next day, in Depew, a little girl reported a similar incident.

Police say the descriptions match.

Sand Springs police say a 10-year-old boy was checking the mailbox when a couple in an SUV pulled up next to him.

"They had a conversation with the boy and the boy started backing up and ran in the house. Mom was watching from the window and the boy was upset when he came in the house and couldn't really talk or say what was happening," said Sand Springs Police Captain Todd Enzbrenner.

He says the next day they saw a similar alert in Depew.

Police say even though the cities are almost an hour apart, the suspects' descriptions are similar enough that the two departments immediately joined forces to investigate.

In Depew, a young girl told police a woman tried to grab her off her bike and pull her through the window of the SUV.

The passenger was a man.

The girl says they were driving a black older model SUV with paper tags.

"When they are that similar there’s no such thing as a coincidence. There's probably something there," Enzbrenner said.

In both cases, the couple was not familiar to the children and the kids weren't able to get the tag numbers.

Police are asking the public to report anything out of the ordinary.

"We don't know if it is a happenstance deal or if something nefarious is going on, so be careful, watch your kids and make sure they're not by themselves," said Enzbrenner.
