The University of Oklahoma regents approved the appointment of school's new president this morning.  He is James L. Gallogly.

The Board of Regents met this morning and the only item on the agenda was the appointment of a president for OU.

“I’m here because I love the University of Oklahoma,” said President Designate Gallogly. “It’s a privilege to be part of the University, and I will work tirelessly with our outstanding students, faculty and administration as we achieve new standards of academic excellence.”

The school officially made the announcement of the school's 14th president around 10 a.m. Gallogly then went to the OU Health Sciences Center in Oklahoma City for a reception at noon. He will then travel to OU-Tulsa for a reception at 5:15 p.m.

Gallogly lost no time in making his first tweet in his new role:

Gallogly was the former CEO of LyondellBasell and held executive positions with ConocoPhillips, ChevronPhillips and Phillips Petroleum.

He attended the University of Colorado for his bachelor’s degree and earned his JD from the University of Oklahoma College of Law.  Gallogly is also a member of the Colorado, Oklahoma and the Texas bar associations.

Gallogly was one of seven people interviewed from March 9 to 10 for the position.

The Gallogly family has been a major donor to OU. The university’s engineering college is named after the family and the currently under construction Gallogly Hall will house the biomedical engineering department at the OU-Norman campus. Gallogly Hall is expected to open in fall 2019.
