The superintendent of the Tulsa School District says push-back over the potential raise for teachers is unfounded.

Dr. Deborah Gist spoke at Tulsa's downtown Rotary Club Wednesday.
She said closing school is a terrible option they'd like to avoid, but schools can't continue without more competitive wages.
"I think it's important that we get beyond the idea that $5,000 per teacher is success. That became some kind of bar because it's been in several plans over the years, but $5,000 per teacher in no way makes us competitive with our region,"
A rally to support raises for teachers and more funding for education is Thursday at noon at 3rd and Main in Tulsa.
