A Pittsburg County Deputy is recovering after a crash in which the sheriff's office said he hydroplaned on the way to a call.

The sheriff here said that he's grateful his deputy survived the accident that left him with broken bones, but not a life-threatening injury.

The crash happened around 2 am Sunday, leaving the truck mangled.

Sheriff Chris Morris said Deputy Dylan Reasnor was responding to a call in heavy rain when the truck hydroplaned and hit a tree.

He was trapped in the truck, then pulled out by first responders.

Sheriff Chris Morris said, “he had surgery on his leg, broke his femur, broke a couple of bones in his arm, did surgery on that. He's in recovery. It could have been a lot worse but he's going to be OK.

Reasoner was responding to a disturbance call in Longtown when he wrecked near Crowder on Highway 69.

The truck hit a tree on the driver’s side. The deputy had on a seatbelt and the airbags deployed or else his injuries would have been worse.

“These guys … they care so much ... they're trying to get there to help somebody [and] they want to get there fast, and help and that was Dillan … he's got a big heart ... wants to get there to help and resolve the situation,” said Sheriff Morris.

He said the truck hit the tree so hard it bounced back 15 feet.

The injured deputy remains hospitalized in McAlester.
