Hispanic Heritage Month begins Friday in Green Country and nationwide.
The month is recognized annually between Sept. 15 and Oct. 15.
There are about 58.6 million people who identify as Hispanic in the United States, according to Pew Research Center.
Hispanic Heritage Month has been celebrated since President Ronald Reagan expanded the celebration from one week in 1988.
In 1968, President Lyndon Johnson began the celebration as Hispanic Heritage Week, according to the Hispanic Heritage Month website created by the Library of Congress.
The Tulsa Community College Hispanic Student Association will hold a celebration at 4:30 p.m. on Sept. 28 at the TCC campus, 909 S. Boston Ave.
