All along the Texas Gulf Coast efforts are underway to save animals as well as their owners.

The Tulsa Humane Society has a team in Houston helping at animal shelters across Harris County.

The Humane Society Emergency Animal Response Team left Monday for south Texas.  That team is working with those Texas shelters to take their current homeless animals to make space for those displaced by Harvey.

The Humane Society of Tulsa expects 300 animals will come through the doors of its Emergency Shelter in Bixby later this week.

The shelter will act as a holding place until the animals can be taken to other shelters across the country.

Today, the Humane Society is asking for donations as it prepares for an influx of animals.  The list of items needed includes:

  • Cat Litter
  • Paper Towels
  • Clorox Wipes
  • Cat Toys
  • Dog toys
  • Cat Treats
  • Dog Treats
  • Bath Towels
  • Fleece Blankets

They are also accepting cash donations as well.
