Police arrested a 17-year-old who they say shot and wounded a man delivering newspapers early Friday.

Officers said the shooting happened just before 3:30 a.m. in the 1900 block of West 61st Street Place. Police say the 71-year-old newspaper carrier for the Tulsa World was making deliveries at the time.

The victim told police as he was turning around in the driveway of a home, multiple gunshots were fired at him from an open garage located next door.

Police said the victim drove to a nearby QuikTrip and called 911.

Officers went to the neighborhood and talked to the residents of the home where the shots were fired.

Police said they told the man was trying to break into their home and a 17-year-old who lives there fired at the victim's car.

The car was shot several times with one of those shots grazing the victim in the shoulder. EMSA paramedics treated him for what police said was a non-life-threatening wound. He refused to go to the hospital.

Police said last week, officers had responded to several disturbances between neighbors at the home on West 61st Street Place. Officers learned the home's residents had recently moved in and according to neighbors, since their arrival, there had been problems.

After the teenager was questioned, he was arrested on complaints of shooting with intent to kill, knowingly concealing stolen property and unlawful possession of a firearm by a minor.
