The Creek County Sheriff's Office said 13-year-old Cash Lawrence died Tuesday night while riding his horse near his Sapulpa home.

The chief deputy at the sheriff's office says it was a tragic accident that took the life of the young cowboy; it was also confirmed by the medical examiner.

Cash Lawrence went out for a horse ride - his horse made it home, but Cash never did.

Cash was born to be a cowboy - riding bulls before he was a teenager, he was a natural in the rodeo arena.

When he wasn't out for the eight-second ride, you could find him saddled up on his horse, which is what he was doing Tuesday evening.

“He rode fairly often, so it wasn't uncommon for him to get on his horse and go riding,” said Chief Deputy Fred Clark.

Clark said Cash's family became worried when his horse made it home without him.

“So, immediately family was concerned, began looking for him,” he said.

When they couldn't find him, they called 911.

“We sent deputies out there, began looking for the young man,” Clark said.

The Tulsa Police helicopter also helped look for Cash.

Clark said after about three hours of searching, a family member of Cash discovered the 13-year-old's body no more than a quarter-mile from his house.

“We think maybe something possibly scared the horse, spooked the horse, and he got caught up in the horse and drug him,” Clark said.

Clark said it was nothing more than a tragic accident.

Cash's funeral is set for 2:00 p.m. Monday, June 5th at Cross Bar Arena in Mounds.

There will also be a candlelight vigil open to the public at 8:00 p.m. Friday, June 2, at the Kellyville football field.
