We are lining up for picture perfect Sunday weather across eastern Oklahoma!
High pressure is settling across the state today, giving us a day with pleasantly light winds. We’ll have lots of sunshine to go around during the day, with a nice warm-up into the low to mid-70s for afternoon highs. It’ll be terrific weather for Mayfest, Hop Jam, the Blue Dome Festival, and any other outdoor events!
Cool conditions will settle back in tonight as those very light winds continue with high pressure moving just off to our east. Lows look to dip back into the low 50s overnight, with some upper 40s in outlying areas and a bit of a brisk start to our Monday!
A return to a south-southeast breeze will usher in a slight increase in temperatures for the start of the week, with highs pushing back into the mid to upper 70s by Monday afternoon. High clouds will also be on a steady increase throughout the day Monday as the next storm system quickly approaches.
Isolated to widely scattered showers will become possible by late Monday afternoon into Monday evening as the next upper-level wave moves in along with our next cold front. That front will trigger a better chance of storms late Monday night into early Tuesday morning as it moves through eastern Oklahoma. Severe weather chances appear much lower this time around as moisture and instability will be somewhat lacking, and rain amounts should also be less than an inch in most locations.
Cooler than normal conditions will return for Tuesday and Wednesday behind that cold front with afternoon temperatures struggling to get above the 70-degree mark, particularly on Wednesday. A brisk northwest breeze will also keep a little chill in the air for the mid-week timeframe.
Much more typical late spring warmth, wind, and humidity will be on the increase by late in the week as stronger south winds return. We look to remain mostly dry through late week, but the chance for scattered showers and storms may begin to increase – unfortunately – as we head into Memorial Day weekend. There’s still a lot to be determined in this timeframe, but we’ll keep you advised!
