A woman is dead after Tulsa police say she was shot once in the head during an attempted robbery at the Sawmill Apartments in Tulsa early Thursday morning.
Police said the victim was Vennie Jean Blalock, 64. However, a family member said her name was Jeannie Tiger Blalock.
Police said they believe she had just arrived around 3:30 a.m. to the apartments located at 12903 E. 35th Place and had just exited her vehicle when two men attempted to rob her.
Police said they believe she began struggling with the men when the gun went off and she was struck in the forehead with a bullet.
When TPD arrived, they said they found Blalock lying on the ground in the parking lot with a gunshot wound to the forehead.
Police currently don't have a description of the suspects but they believe they ran north from the area of the crime scene to a vehicle waiting in the front of the complex.
A TPD K-9 officer tracked the suspects but lost them in the complex.
