For the 34th consecutive year, Stillwater is hosting the Special Olympics Summer Games. Sailing for Gold is the theme for opening ceremonies.
The event is underway and thousands are participating.
And just like every year since 2005, the powerlifting competition had a distinctive Cowboy flair.
OSU strength coach Rob Glass oversaw the proceedings. Former Cowboy cornerback Trumain Carroll, now the strength coach at Southern Methodist University, was there as well like he has been every year since he was a player.
For him, it's the athletes that draw him back every year.
"These kids make today so special,” said Carroll. “They spend all year long preparing for today to come in and put on a show for everyone and move some big weight. I'm surprised to come in here and see how much weight is being moved, one, but two, just how joyous and appreciative they are to have an event like this.
Among the dignitaries taking part in opening ceremonies are Oklahoma head basketball coach Lon Kruger and Oklahoma State new head coach Mike Boynton.
After Wednesday night, the action continues Thursday and wraps up on Friday.
