A vehicle found overturned in the Verdigris River Wednesday was an abandoned car that had been sitting about 200 yards upriver for nearly a year, Catoosa Police Chief Kevin McKim said.
Catoosa firefighters responded to a car in the river on May 3, 2017, but discovered there was no one inside.

McKim said Catoosa police were called out May 9, 2016 to an abandoned car in the Verdigris River and they learned the vehicle was not stolen. He said the Rogers County Sheriff's Office was supposed to contact the vehicle's owners to have them remove it.
McKim said the car in the river on Wednesday is that same vehicle and it had washed down the river due to recent rains after the owners failed to remove it last year.
