A 12-year-old girl has died from injuries she received Monday in a hit-and-run collision in Westville, police said. The girl was pronounced dead on May 3 at 8:42 p.m. from multiple injuries received in the collision, Westville police wrote in a news release Wednesday.
Police said they responded to a call Monday at about 9:20 p.m. when the caller said a girl was hit and was lying unconscious in the road.
The witness told police the vehicle involved was a 2004-2010 Chevrolet Tahoe.
A short time later, police received a call from a woman requesting police to McNair Circle in Westville, and they said the woman is known for driving a vehicle matching the description. When they responded to McNair Circle, they met with 33-year-old Daniel Perez and they said he was "irate and showed signs of intoxication," police said.
Perez was detained and then booked into the Adair County jail.
Police and they were able to locate the black Chevrolet Tahoe at a nearby apartment complex and the vehicle had front-end damage and an open container of alcohol in the driver's area of the Tahoe, police said.
On May 2, the Westville Police Department requested a search warrant for the Tahoe and it also requested assistance from the Oklahoma Bureau of Investigation.
