New Therapy Dog For Cherokee Nation Indian Child Welfare Office

Children at the Cherokee Nation Indian Child Welfare office are getting a new therapy dog.

Unali, which means "friend" in Cherokee, is the first therapy dog for the tribe's welfare center in Tahlequah.    

Officials say the 11-week old golden retriever, which arrived by plane in Tulsa, will be helping children ease their anxiety as they transition into new foster homes. 

"When they've been removed from their homes, they are always upset and we are going to bring the dog in, use her as a buffer for them," Connie Webb with Cherokee Indian Nation Child Welfare.
