The University of Tulsa Softball team swept the American Athletic Conference weekly awards for the second time this season as sophomore outfielder Julia Hollingsworth was named Player of the Week while junior right-hander Emily Watson earned her seventh Pitcher of the Week nod as the Hurricane went 4-0 over the week with a sweep of UConn in league play.
Hollingsworth (Ennis, Texas) earned her first Player of the Week nod after hitting .500 for the week with fours runs scored and five runs batted in. The sophomore homered in back-to-back games to close out the UConn series, including a two-hit and two RBI performance on Saturday to clinch a series win. Hollingsworth slugged 1.400 while reaching base at a .643 clip in Tulsa's four victories from the leadoff spot in the lineup.
Watson (Edmond, Okla.) went 3-0 in the circle with a 0.37 ERA and 31 strikeouts with no walks, striking out double-digit batters in two of three starts while allowing just one extra base hit. In Wednesday's 3-0 shutout win over Oklahoma State, Watson struck 11 before going on to fan 13 in a game one win over UConn in the series opener on Friday. The junior passed Jordan Kinard (2008-11) for fourth all-time on Tulsa's career strikeout list and moved into a tie for fourth-most career shutouts.
The Hurricane will be back in action on the diamond for a three-game series against East Carolina in Greenville, N.C. with game one scheduled for Friday at 5 p.m.
