A Sand Springs native is making a big splash for himself in his first year as a pro-angler. Chad Warren finished third in the Costa FLW Series tournament on Grand Lake last week with a 30 pound, 11 ounce total bag.

There were challenges on the water with heavy rain bringing lake levels up some 5 feet and rising. Not only did he take the third place trophy but he took home nearly $14,000.

Nick Prvonozac of Warren, Ohio finished first. Matt Arey of Shelby, North Carolina took second. Another Oklahoma pro fisherman finished in the top 10. Tye Smith of Forst Gibson took ninth place.

The tournament made the news earlier in the week when four anglers were involved in a boating collision during heavy fog and rain Thursday, April 20.

Tournament competitors Ross Wright of McQueeny, Texas, and Matt Garner of Seminole, Oklahoma were the two boaters involved in the incident, along with co-anglers Johnny Babb of Holdenville, Oklahoma, and Jimmy Green of Grove, Oklahoma.

The event was canceled on Friday due to the heavy rain, the FLW website states.
