Police escorted a retired Muskogee Police K-9 officer to a local veterinary hospital Thursday morning. Bosco was a German Shepherd who was imported from Holland and trained to be a K-9 officer.
The procession began at the home where Bosco lived and ended at the clinic, where he was put to sleep because of age and deteriorating health.
How do you say goodbye to an old partner? Well, you invite all his friends. Lots of them came in on their day off to make sure Bosco got a proper send off.
During the procession, the retired K-9 officer rode with his partner, Lieutenant Bill Peters. Peters said losing Bosco will be especially hard on his 4-year-old daughter. Since his retirement, she and Bosco have become very close.
"He was a great dog, and a great partner, and I'm going to miss him," Peters said.
Bosco's honor guard included Muskogee County EMS, Special Operations Team members and other Muskogee law enforcement personnel.
Bosco was a K-9 officer with the department from 2008 until his retirement in 2014. End of watch: April 20, 2017.
Thank you for your service.
