Emergency crews responded to a mishap with a plane at the Jones Riverside Airport in Jenks Wednesday afternoon. A twin-engine Piper Seminole went nose down off the runway around 2:30 p.m.
Two people were aboard the plane, and they appear to be uninjured.
The airport was effectively shut down because of construction and the emergency response to the incident. Helicopters were able land, but fixed-winged aircraft couldn't use the runways.
One runway was re-opened just after 4:00 p.m.
Osage SkyNews 6 HD pilot Will Kavanagh said the incident is termed a ground incursion because the pilot had not left the runway when it occurred. Wind may have played a role in pushing the plane off the runway, he said.
The wheels of the plane were stuck in the ground and a front-loader was used to remove the aircraft.
The plane is owned by Spartan Aeronautics.
