Owasso Police closed the northbound lanes of Highway 169 Saturday because of a fatal wreck.

The wreck happened at about 10:30 p.m. just south of the bridges over 86th Street North.

According to officers at the scene, a Ford SUV rear-ended a motorcycle as it pulled onto the highway from the shoulder. The impact knocked Newalla resident Steve Thompson onto the highway where he was hit by another SUV. Officers said the 41-year-old Thompson died at the scene.

Owasso Police shut down the northbound lanes at 86th Street North, and forced traffic off the highway at the 76th Street North exit.

Lieutenant Nick Boatman said the highway was shutdown for about five hours.

Boatman said it's not clear whether it was the impact from the Ford or the second vehicle, a Lexus, that caused Thompson's death.
