It may be offseason at ONEOK Field, but things are still happening at the home of the Tulsa Drillers and Tulsa Roughnecks.
Construction is underway on a new scoreboard bar at Tulsa's ONEOK Field.
And , an open-air, four-sided bar is being built under the stadium's scoreboard behind the left-center field fence.
The Tulsa Drillers say when completed, it is believed it will be the largest, outdoor bar in the state of Oklahoma.
“For us, our role as the shepherds of taking care of this facility is to keep it clean, new and looking great, and we want to add things every two or three years to keep this environment dynamic,” said General Manager Mike Melega.
In a news release, they say the new scoreboard bar will feature 12 big screen TVs and will serve dozens of imported and domestic beers, including several Oklahoma craft beers.
"There are so many ways and places to enjoy games at ONEOK Field, and this new project provides another exciting amenity for fans," said Drillers Co-Chairman Dale Hubbard.
As far as the actual bar, it will be more than 62 feet long with a total area of nearly 1,200 square feet.
"We expect it to become a fun gathering place that will offer a memorable and unique experience for fans," Hubbard said.
On certain nights, beer will flow after the games wrap up and you'll have the chance to book it for private events.
"We want to continue to re-invest in ONEOK Field to continue to improve the experience of coming to a game," said Drillers Co-Chairman Jeff Hubbard.
Melega said, "It really will appeal a lot to our younger crowd which ONEOK Field has been a boom for us. At Drillers’ Stadium, the millennials, it wasn't built for them and this park is so much more so.”
The owners of the Drillers and Roughnecks are paying for the bar build-out and it will be open for fans to use well before the 2017 season.
The layout of the bar was designed by King Architectural Solutions, whose offices are located next door.
The actual construction is being done by West Construction of Tulsa.
